A town between forest and dunes

Guardamar sits at the mouth of the river Segura. Between the town and the sea runs a belt of dunes and pine forest of around 800 hectares. It was planted in the early 20th century, when the sand was advancing on the town, and today it is a protected natural park. That is what sets Guardamar apart: there is no wall of tall buildings along the beach, and the way to the sea leads through the pines.

How the market works

The centre is a compact Spanish town a kilometre from the sea: apartments in buildings of different ages, a market, schools and a health centre, all open year round.

The urbanisations on the edges of town offer complexes with pools, bungalows and townhouses, some of them new builds.

Because the coastal strip is protected, homes sit behind the forest rather than on the beach itself. For buyers that is mostly a plus: a view of pines instead of someone else's facade, and beaches that will never be built on.

Who it suits

Living here full time — the centre, with everything close by and a town that stays alive in winter. Holidays with children — the areas by the forest and beaches, with wide sand and shade from the pines. Peace and quiet — Guardamar is noticeably calmer than its touristy neighbours, while Torrevieja's shops and services are 15 minutes away.
